Friendship before Relationship

Fresh Peaches from Parc Cruz Photostream

“A relationship without friendship as its foundation is like a castle built on sand.”

I came across this quote a very long time ago. During that time, I wasn’t really able to analyze this quote. It seemed to me as just another simile that hopeless romantic people have created.

Now that I have come to my senses, I realized that this specific quote makes perfect sense for people who get into and are currently in a relationship.

A couple who plans to get into a relationship should first be able to distinguish themselves as best friends. They have to be able to open up to each other. They need to have the capacity of total honesty to one another. In the friendship stage, the two people will be able to determine if they really are a perfect match.

The friendship that has been built will be carried over into a relationship. When you compare relationships that have friendship as a foundation, communication will not be a major problem in the relationship. They will be able to relay their thoughts and feelings to their partner with more ease. On the other hand, the relationships that happened too fast will tend to have more communication problems. There will be anxiety between the couple. There will be things they won’t know how to tell their partner.

Having a good friendship with your partner is probably one of the most critical parts in having a relationship. It makes things more comfortable for both sides because of the time shared with each other as friends. The time shared as a couple is totally different but also as important.

Take it one step at a time. Have a friendship before having a relationship.

This is absolutely true, my best relationship so far came from the basis of us being best friends to start with – it just grew from there. Unfortunately, the person has deceased, and no longer my partner. I now feel that I need the time to be friends with a man before I decide to have a relationship with him. In the days of “fast men” it is best to go slow, slow motion gets you there faster!!
