Say a Little Prayer for the Magnaye Kids

It wasn’t brought to my attention until yesterday on this fire that broke out in Pasig, Manggahan in Manila, Philippines where two kids Matthew and Mary Jo perished in a fire embracing each other as the flames of the burning house practically ate them up. It all happened so fast but what really made me shake my head were their ages, 18 and 4.

Kids have bright futures. But to end it all due to a freak accident wherein the story seemed that they were collateral damage due to an erring neighbor is really something that can devastate me in thought. In fact, they were not even supposed to be in the house. They just waited for their dad to come back after dropping of their mom at a hospital in a span of 20 minutes. That’s all it took to claim the lives of two innocent children with a budding future.

Matthew was only 4 years old while Mary Jo was 18. They were snuck up in their room when a sudden explosion was heard and razed their homes into flames. The explosion? No one ever knew what it was. Many said it was the LPG tank but after the fire was put out, it was still in one piece.

Firemen said it was the television set which overheat. But think of it. How could a television be left open if the kids were snuck up in their room with no one else in the home?

The dad tried to get into the house but the flames were too much. In fact, he suffered severe burns to the body. His glasses even broke, almost hitting his eyes showing how it was impossible to get in and save the kids.

Prior to the fire, the Magnayes already had problems. It was more of a parking dispute where their controversial neighbor placed a written message to their car saying “Get the F—K Out of Here”.

There are no evidences to trace the neighbor to the burning of the house as of to date. But if it was and the intent was to take away property for them to leave the area, the assailant forgot to consider the possibility of people in the house (kids at that!) since it was routine that by 7 AM, no one would be left in the house.

My family would like to extend our condolences to the Magnayes. We will include your kids in our prayers…
