What Time of Day Should a Wedding be Held?
What Time of Day Should I Schedule My Wedding?
Once a couple sets the date of their wedding, there are still more choices to be made. They still have to decide what time of day the wedding will be held. There are many factors that should be kept in mind when making that decision.
-
What is the space like? I went to a wedding last spring that took place in a beautiful wood and glass chapel. It overlooked a lake and sat among exquisite gardens. It seemed like the perfect place for a wedding, but the 5:00 time turned the glass western wall into a magnifying glass. With no cooling system in the chapel, it was like holding a ceremony in an oven. Make sure you think through all the aspects of your space before you commmit to a time.

Can you feed all the guests? The time of your wedding is closely connected to the hunger level of your guests. A late afternoon or early evening wedding makes it necessary to feed people an evening meal. However, if you hold your wedding in the early afternoon or later in the evening, you allow time for people to provide their own dinner, and you can simply provide drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

How far do people have to travel? Before setting the time for your wedding, think about who’s coming and how far they have to come. If people are flying or driving in, they may not be able to get to an early wedding.
-
Where are you spending the wedding night? Do you have a long drive ahead of you, or a plane to catch? Or will you just be crashing in a local hotel or even your own apartment? Give yourself time to travel if you need it, but don’t plan to leave your own reception too early. Everyone want to celebrate with you.
-
When are your professionals available? Your florist, officiant, photographer or musicians might have other obligations that day, and they’ll need to schedule things well ahead of time. In addition, some churches or other wedding venues schedule more than one wedding in a day. In order to get the people you want for your wedding, you may have to be flexible enough to adjust your time of day.
