Marry Me This Christmas!
The Christmas spirit effects everyone differently with some running round frantically trying to find that last minute Christmas gift, while others pre-plan theirs days down to the last detail.
Amidst all this, some men also think about popping that life-changing question: ‘Will you marry me’? According to the Welsh jewelry company Clogau Gold, sales of engagement rings and wedding rings typically increase around the festive Christmas period. Managing Director Ben Roberts said, “It could just be that the Christmas spirit overwhelms couples – or that girlfriends or fiancée’s hints are not as subtle as they once were!”
Despite the UK jewelry industry’s expectation that sales of wedding and engagement rings would decline due to the soaring cost of gold, combined with the effects of the recession and the general decline in high-street spending, this has not been the case. In fact, sales continue to grow.
Christmas has always been a busy time for UK jewelry retailers with many capitalizing on the spike in wedding proposals in late December and early January. It could simply be due to partners dropping slight hints now and again. Another theory is that couples hitting the odd Christmas party have one too many and the three words blurt out.
New Year is another night where some feel it’s the perfect opportunity to pop the question and this also contributes to the demand for wedding rings and engagement rings. Jewelry retailers have taken note of this trend for years with some starting sales early allowing clients to pop the question over the Christmas holidays.
