IllicitEncounters.com Prepares for Influx as RELATE Cancels Thousands of London Appointments
As RELATE, the UK’s main marriage counselling body, cancels thousands of appointments across London, extra-marital dating site IllicitEncounters.com prepares for an influx of new members. The site, which has around 7% of its 330,000 members in the capital city, has taken on extra staff to cope with the expected surge in membership.
IllicitEncounters receives around 345 new members a day, but expects this figure to rise over the coming weeks when stressed couples buckle under the weight of bottled-up feelings.
“Husbands and wives need an outlet,” says Sara Hartley, site representative. “If the place where they usually let off steam is for some reason taken away from them, they may chose a different route. Here at IllicitEncounters, we think of ourselves as an alternative to therapy. Many of our members think of us that way too.”
“Illicit Encounters offers an emotional release in various ways. Some of our members simply chose to talk to like-minded members, and are not interested in pursuing a romantic relationship. Some members decide to meet up with each other – enjoy recreational activities with someone new. There are then the members that use IE to conduct full-blown affairs. There are different levels of immersion.”
