What is Love?
What is love? Someone who has dated for a very lengthy time asked me that today and it made me think.
I couldn’t believe this person was unsure of what love was because they had many relationships. It makes you question your own past relationships. Were you really in love? Was it mere infatuation? Lust? Love is suppose to be unconditional so shouldn’t love last a lifetime?
We are more forgiving to our friends yet less forgiving to those we are in an intimate loving relationship. We demand alot more and have a high set of expectations. Why is that? I asked around and it was true that yes, we put up with more stuff from our friends but less with our partners. Perhaps because we end up sharing a home with our partners whereas our friends we can set the schedule on when and how often we see them. I found it interesting.
If love is unconditional shouldn’t we have a lifetime with this person. If love is unconditional then we should love all of their good and flaws. There are many dealbreakers for us in relationships from minor to absolute major that there needs to be a break up but it’s very rare that I see nowadays couples that have together for a very lengthy time.
Love is something that you define on your own. It could be physical from the way your heart still flutters when you just hear their voice or their touch on your hand. It could be deep and emotional where you can see past their flaws or annoying habits and see the good in them. It could be mentally where your mind wants to know how their mind works and what dreams they have. There are many elements to love and only you will know when it happens.
